Another week of #NHPolitics Ins and Outs, taking you on a tour of the ins and outs of the ever-changing world of New Hampshire Politics, keeping score of the winners and losers week-by-week — and letting you know who’s in and who’s out.

Let’s get into it.

Who’s In?

Top NH Dem Leaders Defend Biden After Tough Debate Performance — After a bruising debate performance that kicked off a rough media cycle for Joe Biden, top state-level supporters wasted no time cementing their support for the president in a press conference the morning after, pointing out that Donald Trump’s performance was a disaster of its own.

Democrats made a forceful case against Donald Trump’s own lackluster performance during the debate and promised to continue to support Biden through the election, citing his strong record serving the people of New Hampshire and the country, and pointing to the dire stakes if Trump is re-elected.

“Donald Trump failed, not once, not twice, but three times, to commit to accepting the results of a free and fair election in November. Donald Trump would not disavow what happened on January 6, which was deeply, deeply concerning, though not surprising. He called overturning Roe a great thing, and he defended his plans to cut taxes for the ultra wealthy. While Trump lied, Biden put forth a forward looking vision to make life better for the American people… He was clear that he would codify Roe and restore a woman’s right to choose, and he called Trump out for who he is, a liar and a fraud,” said House Democratic Leader Matt Wilhelm at the press conference.

Look for more on this tomorrow.

Big Guests Keep Coming — This week saw big name actor Tony Goldwyn, famous for his roles in Scandal and Law and Order, in the state on the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, speaking to the threat a second Trump term would bring to the women of the state. Check our one-on-one interview for more.

Also on the subject of big guests, announced this week, popular California Governor Gavin Newsom will headline a joint NH State House and Senate Democrats event, one of the biggest names to make it to the state in 2024, likely to draw another major show of media attention to the Granite State.

Expect him to offer some reactions to outgoing governor Chris Sununu’s fratty claim he’s “just a prick”.

NH02 Candidates Release Repro Platforms — Maggie Goodlander and Colin Van Ostern, the top Democratic candidates for the 2nd congressional seat, used the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade to release their reproductive rights platforms if elected.

While both Goodlander and Van Ostern had comprehensive plans, Republicans in the race chose not to acknowledge the significance of the day. Check out our recent videos on the anniversary of Dobbs with both Goodlander and Van Ostern.

Who’s Out!

Embarrassing Overreach by NH GOP — New Hampshire Republicans celebrated Joe Biden’s poor debate performance, straining the ligaments of their shoulders and elbows patting themselves and each other on the back, seeming to enjoy the feeling of having achieved something while not doing anything.

Few Republican political operatives celebrated themselves as richly as Michael Graham, the disgraced former conservative radio show host that runs a local far-right Republican blog which serves as the de facto communications arm of the NH GOP and employs the recently former Communications Director of the Massachusetts Republican Party, Evan Lips.

Graham called top New Hampshire Democratic leaders and elected officials who supported the incumbent Democratic president in his reelection campaign “obsequious lapdogs” and “bootlickers” on social media following the debate, maintaining his typical air of professionalism and credibility.

Others like NH GOP employee Chris Maidment celebrated the debate by posting on social media that Donald Trump’s success in overturning Roe v. Wade and the result of women across the country having their reproductive rights stripped away was “based.”

“Insanely stupid”: NH GOP Bets Big on Abortion Misinformation Campaign — Democrats were stunned this week when top NH GOP party officials held a press conference on the morning of the 2nd anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade to announce they planned to spend a “six-figure” sum talking about abortion in the 2024 election cycle, specifically using a website and video ads aimed at rewriting their long record proposing and signing legislation restricting abortion rights in the state.

They said the move was definitely not born out of desperation.

“Wildly, insanely stupid” said one top Democratic strategist responding to the campaign. Many state Dems were nigh gleeful at the announcement of the plans, suggesting that keeping the topic of abortion front of voters’ mind was a positive thing for Democrats, and the party effort would cause untold challenges in upcoming primaries, where Republican candidates will be playing to more conservative audiences.

Noveletsky “Paid to Play” — Far-right group “Right of Center” held a free-for-all debate this week for Republican candidates in the NH-01 congressional primary. When asked about large donations to state senators, and a $10,000 check to the NH GOP, candidate Hollie Noveletsky, owner and CEO of Novel Iron Works, said the donations were “paid to play”.

After the donations Gov. Chris Sununu signed a bill requiring state projects to use American steel. Check out WMUR’s coverage for more on this messy debate.
