Students at Stevens High School in Claremont were placed on lockdown for about an hour Tuesday afternoon after a student reported seeing a Snapchat post showing four students with a gun inside the school, Superintendent Chris Pratt said in a Facebook post.

The lockdown began at 12:50 p.m. and school administrators immediately contacted 911. The superintendent’s office also ordered all other schools in the district to go into lockdown as a precaution.

“Law enforcement arrived on the scene within minutes and swiftly conducted a thorough sweep of Stevens High School,” Pratt said.

Officers located the four students and one of them was found in possession of a BB gun, according to police and Pratt. Authorities continued searching classrooms before deeming the school safe and lifting the lockdown at 1:45 p.m.

“I fully recognize that situations like this are extremely stressful for everyone involved,” Pratt said in a statement. “I take the safety of our students and staff very seriously, and I am actively exploring additional measures to further enhance security across all SAU 6 schools.”

There were no injuries. Pratt said the students involved will face expulsion proceedings, and some may face criminal charges.
