New Hampshire voters are on track for a record voter turnout at the general election on Tuesday.
The Secretary of State David Scanlan said Thursday before the election that more than 85,000 absentee ballots had been requested.
“That’s indicative of very good turnout,” he said at a press conference.
Scanlan estimated Thursday that around 824,000 people would vote on election day, breaking the record in 2020, when 814,499 people voted.
There were long lines at the polls across the state on Tuesday, as people turned out in the warm weather and expressing enthusiasm for the high-stakes election.
On Tuesday morning, Manchester Selectman Jim Townsend said 400 people voted in the first hour at Ward 1.
“No issues—everything’s copasetic,” he said.
