In a boost to his congressional campaign, Colin Van Ostern this week secured the endorsements of three prominent labor organizations. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Transportation Division (SMART-TD), and the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Local 230 have all announced their support for Van Ostern in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District race.

“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsements of BLET, SMART-TD, and APWU Local 230 in this race,” Van Ostern said. “Our transportation and postal workers are the backbone of our economy, and I am dedicated to ensuring they have the support and resources they need to thrive.”

The labor backing comes after another high-profile endorsement for Van Ostern, that of sitting Congresswoman Annie Kuster, who currently holds the seat and endorsed Van Ostern shortly after he announced his intention to seek the seat. Another 100 Granite Staters previously signed on to backing the candidate for his reproductive rights platform. It also comes after the endorsement of the Teamsters Local 633 and IBEW 2320 who gave Van Ostern the nod in recent weeks.

Daniel Cadogan, Chairman of the New England Legislative Board, stated, “Colin Van Osten has been a steadfast champion of rail workers for over a decade. His dedication to returning passenger service to the Capitol Corridor is vital for economic growth in southern New Hampshire. I am confident he is the best candidate to represent our district and the challenges we face in Washington.”

Dave Stevenson, New England Legislative Director of SMART-TD, noted, “Colin Van Ostern’s support for passenger rail service demonstrates his commitment to public service. This initiative will boost our state’s economy, create jobs, and reduce traffic congestion on I-93 and Route 3. We are proud to support his congressional bid.”

Van Ostern has advocated for rail expansion since his early political career.

“Championing passenger rail was one of the first issues that led me to run for public office,” he said. “I remain committed to fighting for rail projects in New Hampshire. Passenger rail investments will bring thousands of jobs to southern N.H. and take thousands of cars off the road.”

The primary for the 2nd district congressional seat has been marked by high-profile endorsements on both sides, with Van Ostern’s primary opponent Maggie Goodlander recently getting the nod from EMILY’s list.
