A person drove their vehicle through a fence at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease Aug. 29 and collided with an empty plane on the tarmac, according to New Hampshire State Police.
State police spokesperson Michal Sventek reported a suspect was attempting to elude law enforcement prior to the crash.
The driver has been detained, according to Sventek.
“(The) suspect drove through a fence and struck a small, stationary plane that was unoccupied,” Sventek stated.
Portsmouth police confirmed its officers responded to the airport.
Airfield remains open amid police response
John Meehan, manager of Portsmouth International Airport, confirmed the airfield remains active and open, despite the police presence.
The crash occurred at the south end of the airfield, according to Meehan.
“The airfield remains open and safe at this time. There is no active specific threat at this time,” Meehan said late night Aug. 29.
Meehan referred all other questions to state police.
