Riverside Rest Home in Dover has been ranked No. 1 in New Hampshire and No. 4 in the Northeast among nursing homes with 150 beds or more in Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027 rankings.

The evaluation is based on the following four pillars: performance data, peer recommendation, accreditations and satisfaction, according to a news release by the Strafford County Commission. There were 14,693 homes analyzed and the findings are based on the top 1,324. Statista used data from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid to determine the performance of the nursing homes. Statista also accepted peer recommendations from medical experts who were available to submit an online survey. All data was collected from June to August 2026. Additional accreditations from the Joint Commission International and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) were included in the scoring model where available.

“Despite working in an aging facility with it’s challenges, there is a spirit of goodwill and of optimism that comes from good and skilled people working together” said state Rep. Janet G. Walls, chair of the Riverside Rest Home Delegation Subcommittee in a prepared statement.

Riverside Rest Home, which has 215 beds and is operated by Strafford County, was built from the late 1960s to 1978. Anyone interested in finding out more about Riverside Rest Home is encouraged by county leaders to take a tour.
