If you’re a fan of unique, high-quality spirits, there’s a distillery in New Hampshire you need to know about. Tamworth Distilling recently earned a spot on USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for 2025, ranking third in the Best Craft Specialty Spirits category, up from seventh last year.

Here’s why Tamworth Distilling is getting national attention and what you need to know if you plan to visit.

Why it’s special: Tamworth is inspired by New Hampshire’s natural beauty, and uses ingredients from local farms, its own backyard gardens, and the surrounding wilderness. Unlike many craft producers, it distills its own grain spirits using locally sourced corn, rye, and malt.

Notable spirits: Old Hampshire Blended Applejack, William Whipple’s Winter Wheat Whiskey, The Devil’s Footprints Apple Liqueur, Skiklubben Aquavit, and Chocorua New England Amaro.
