A big win for land conservation happened recently in New Hampshire: The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests completed a long-term project to protect two adjacent forests in the northern part of the state: Shelburne Valley Forest (which rises from the Androscoggin River to the ridgeline of the Mahoosuc Range) and Bald Cap Peak Forest (which helps connect the Mahoosucs and the White Mountain National Forest). “These 3,700 acres are a remarkable addition to our constellation of nearly 200 forest reservations statewide,” said Forest Society President Jack Savage in a statement. “This project is a prime example of our conservation goals north of the notches: conserving working forest that provides sustainable forest products, enhances outdoor recreation, protects water quality, and links diverse ecosystems that combat climate change.”
