Here are seven New Hampshire farms where you can pick pumpkins and participate in plenty of other fun fall activities.
It’s spooky season in New Hampshire, which means pumpkins are a must-have. Granite Staters know that the quest for just the right specimen can be as much fun as carving and decorating the bulbous, orange gourds. So why not make a whole day of it?
Here is a list of seven PYO (pick your own) pumpkin patches that also offer fall fun, like corn mazes, haunted fields, hayrides, and autumn-inspired goodies.
Best pumpkin patches in the Seacoast Region
APPLECREST FARM
133 Exeter Road, Hampton Falls
There are acres and acres of pumpkins and gourds just waiting to be picked here through the end of October, including sugar pumpkins (used in pumpkin pies) and, of course, traditional jack-o-lantern-worthy specimens. All pumpkins are sold by the pound. Applecrest also has a corn maze, which costs $9 per person (but children 5 and under are free!).
DEMERITT HILL FARM
20 Orchard Way, Lee
DeMeritt Hill Farm has three patches to offer the persnickety pumpkin picker searching for the perfect gourd: big or small, orange or white, sugar or decorative. If you aren’t up for PYO, you can buy any of the pumpkins, as well as already-decorated versions, at the farm store. On weekends, the farm offers tractor rides and hayrides to the fields and, on occasion, live music. There is also a food truck and fresh cider donuts. DeMeritt is also home to the award-winning Hauntworld haunted house. Check here for admission prices, tickets, and times.
Best pumpkin patches in the Lakes Region
MOULTON FARM
18 Quarry Rd., Meredith
For more than 130 years, Moulton Farm has been growing food for Lakes Region households, and that includes pumpkins, of course. Hunt for the perfect pumpkin for carving, baking, decorating, or what the farm calls “specialty pumpkins” with unique shapes, colors, and sizes. There’s also a corn maze, which costs $10 for adults and $6 for children (aged 3 to 6 are free). An onsite food truck offers seasonal offerings and ice cream. Pumpkin whoopie pies and cider donuts are available at the farm’s bakery. If you always wondered how farmers create corn mazes, Moulton lets you in on their secret here.
BEANS AND GREENS FARM
245 Intervale Rd., Gilford
Peruse the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, then head over to what the farm claims to be “one of the most difficult and behemoth of corn mazes” in New England. Maze admission ranges from $16 to $12, and children 2 and under are free. There are also hayrides on Fridays and Saturdays for $10.
Best pumpkin patch in Merrimack Valley
DEVRIENDT FARM
178 South Mast Road, Goffstown
On the weekend, you can take a hayride to Devriendt Farm’s pumpkin field and pick your own orange beauties. Then you’ll want to head over to “the newest and most challenging” corn maze and, you know—get lost! Admission is $10 for ages 13, $5ages 4 to 12, and ages 3 and under are free. The last entry to the maze and last hayride ride to the pumpkin field is at 4:30 p.m. Fresh-baked cookies, goodies, squashes, gourds, honey, maple syrup, apples, cider, and more for sale on the porch.
Best pumpkin patch in the Monadnock Region
WASHBURN’S WINDY HILL ORCHARD
65 Mason Rd., Greenville
This farm claims to have thousands of pumpkins in several mud-free hayfields for that perfect carving, sugar, or ornamental beauty. The farm supplies a wagon for lugging your harvest back to the car. Then it’s time for a five-acre corn maze adventure “for all ages” open every day, rain or shine. Washburn’s was one of the first farms in the state to offer a corn maze and has a new design every year. It’s $5 a person, while kids ages 3 and under are free. There’s also a free corn maze scavenger hunt with a souvenir prize. The maze is wheelchair accessible. On Oct 25 and 26, the maze will be open at night, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Guests can also visit the farm’s friendly animals and indulge in the gift shop’s warm apple crisp, apple cider donuts, cider donut sundaes, and hot mulled cider.
Best pumpkin patch in the White Mountains
COLLINS FARM
285 Lisbon Road, Bath
From now through Nov. 2, this farm offers wagon rides to its award-winning pumpkin patch. If you want more fall farm family fun, you can venture out, day or night, into a twisty corn maze. If all that fresh air is making you hungry, the stand offers its “famous French fries” and “deluxe chicken sandwiches.”
