Sandra Oh giving the Dartmouth commencement speech in June 2025
Award-winning actor Sandra Oh gave the Dartmouth Class of 2025 a sendoff to remember at the commencement on Sunday, complete with a dance party.
The “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Killing Eve” star ended her speech by channeling her iconic TV character Dr. Cristina Yang, asking graduates and guests to “dance it out” to David Guetta’s “Titanium” (co-written and performed by Sia). From the stage to the bleachers, the crowd got on their feet, and Oh danced along with them.
“When the world gets hard, or when it’s good, especially when it’s good like today, by yourself, with your friends, people you love, with strangers, always make time to dance it out,” she told the grads.
Fans of “Grey’s” will remember that Oh’s character and Dr. Meredith Grey often danced through challenges.
Oh, who never went to college, received an honorary degree on Sunday. She was recruited to do the speech by Dartmouth alum and “Grey’s” creator Shonda Rhimes. Oh spoke candidly about filming the hit series and called it one of the most difficult decades of her life, but also one that taught her how to grow through discomfort. She encouraged the Class of 2025 to do the same.
