Two Democratic candidates for governor joined forces at a Biden campaign event this week to send a clear message to Republicans trying to run from their anti-abortion records: fat chance.
Taking aim on Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Ayotte and former president Donald Trump, both Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington and former Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig minced no words on both candidates’ records on abortion, asserting both candidates records on reproductive health were firmly established, and any attempts to change course now were lies for the sake of political expediency.
“Kelly Ayotte is the most extreme threat to reproductive healthcare that New Hampshire has ever faced. We cannot trust her to stop the extreme legislation like a 15 day abortion ban that has already been proposed in our state,” said Craig, emphasizing Ayotte’s record of having voted for a total abortion ban during her time in the Senate multiple times.
“Kelly is on the record. She is anti-abortion … She voted for a national abortion ban. She has voted and worked to overturn Roe v Wade, helping to put Gorsuch on the Supreme Court,” said Warmington.

Both candidates also pointed to Ayotte’s recent u-turn on her position on in vitro fertilization treatments.
As reported in the Union Leader, Ayotte consistently opposed access to IVF in the Affordable Care Act and attempted to allow insurers and employers exclude IVF and other medical procedures from required coverage. Ayotte also co-sponsored legislation in 2011 to deny coverage for IVF if the “sponsor, issuer or other entity of the plan” had contrary religious beliefs. Ayotte later signed onto an amendment to expand a rights-of-conscience clause in the ACA which would further allow IVF exclusions.
This event came after a week where Donald Trump attempted to walk back his well-documented position on abortion, and his record as having appointed the Supreme Court Justices who overturned Roe v. Wade.
