Energized by convention, united NH Democrats eager to elect Harris in November

New Hampshire Democrats emerged energized and united after the Democratic National Convention, vowing to elect Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in New Hampshire in November.

At a press conference Monday, members of the state’s DNC delegation led by Senator Maggie Hassan highlighted the historically diverse nature of their representation, which included 11 youth delegates, 10 LGBTQ delegates, five Asian American and Pacific Islander delegates, and delegates of African American, Latino, and indigenous backgrounds.

Hassan said the bipartisan progress made under the Biden-Harris administration was a strong selling point to New Hampshire voters, and serious concerns over Donald Trump’s threats to democracy would turn voters off in a state where civic engagement is such a central part of life.

“We have over the last four years, delivered bipartisan results repeatedly under the Biden-Harris administration, bipartisan, bipartisan results that have moved us forward on the issue of infrastructure. We’re finally getting broadband to every corner of New Hampshire, bipartisan results that are reinvesting in American manufacturing, bipartisan results that are making sure, finally, that veterans get the health care that they have earned and deserved,” Hassan said.State Representative Luz Bay, one of the Asian American delegates, shared her personal story as a Filipina immigrant who became a U.S. citizen and state legislator, drawing parallels to Vice President Harris’s family background.

“Vice President Harris’s story, the child of immigrants from a working class family, represents the American story, and it is a story that resonates with many, including myself,” Bay said.

“Now, more than 20 years later, I was honored to be part of nominating a woman whose family shares my family story, and I cannot wait to elect the first South Asian and female president of the country I love. In this election, Granite Staters have a choice between two distinct visions for the future.”

Rob Werner, an NH Democratic Delegate and State Director for the League of Conservation Voters said volunteers and activists saw the energy at the convention, and the messages they heard from speakers there over four nights have energized the Democratic base in the state.

“I’m fired up after last week’s Democratic National Convention. What a week we had in Chicago,” he said. “Vice President Harris, in her electrifying speech, where she laid out the path forward for a brighter future for our nation… told the story of how vice president Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz have and will continue to fight for the American people, for our freedoms and for our future, while Donald Trump only fights for himself. “
