A Thanksgiving feast isn’t quite complete without a turkey — but this year, why not go the extra mile? Instead of grabbing a frozen bird from the supermarket, consider a fresh, locally raised turkey from a nearby farm.

Whether you’re roasting, smoking, or bravely deep-frying your bird, these local farms offer pasture-raised options that bring homegrown flavor to your holiday table.

Applecrest Farm Orchards

133 Exeter Road, Hampton Falls

Applecrest is once again offering Belle & Evans turkeys for your holiday table. These all-natural birds come from the rolling hills of Mennonite country in Pennsylvania, where they are humanely raised in open barns without the use of hormones or antibiotics, according to Applecrest. Fed a strictly vegetarian diet free of animal by-products, these turkeys are known for their exceptional flavor and quality.

In addition to fresh turkeys, Applecrest is offering scratch-made sides, holiday blend cider, and its own signature pies and crisps.

Orders will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can place your order online at applecrest-farms.square.site.

Charmingfare Farm

774 High St., Candia

Charmingfare Farm is now accepting orders for its pasture-raised Thanksgiving turkeys, available in two varieties: traditional white and heritage. Both will be ready for pickup on Monday, Nov. 24, between 4 and 6 p.m.

Traditional white turkeys are priced at $7.99 per pound, while heritage turkeys — known for their rich flavor and slower growth — are $9.99 per pound. Exact weights cannot be guaranteed, but the farm does its best to match customer requests.

Raised outdoors the old-fashioned way, Charmingfare’s turkeys forage on pasture for up to half their diet, supplemented with wholesome grain. Unlike many store-bought birds, these turkeys are never injected or basted with additives.

For more information or to place an order, visit charmingfare.com or contact the farm directly.

Clyde Farm

63 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Farmington

Clyde Farm is now offering a limited number of certified organic broad-breasted white turkeys for Thanksgiving. Raised in mobile coops with electric fencing for predator protection, the turkeys enjoy a free-range lifestyle after several weeks in enclosed pasture tractors, according to the farm.

Whole birds are priced at $7.50 per pound. Early processing this season has allowed the farm to offer a wider range of sizes and ensure that pre-orders are fulfilled.

Customers who’ve signed up can pick up their turkeys at the farm store. A few birds remain available, but they’re selling quickly. To reserve one, email [email protected].

Coombs Farm

4 Little River RoadKingston, NHcoombsfarm.com

Coombs Farm is now accepting reservations for its fresh, pasture-raised heritage breed turkeys, raised on organic, non-GMO feed and open pasture. Birds are processed the week of Thanksgiving and sold fresh, never frozen.

Turkeys are priced at $7.50 per pound, with a $25 deposit required to hold your order. While exact weights aren’t guaranteed, customers may note size preferences when reserving, and the farm will do its best to accommodate.

Pickup is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 25-26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 4 Little River Road, Kingston. For more information or to reserve a bird, visit coombsfarm.com or contact the farm directly.

Hurd Farm

11 Old Stage Rd, Hampton

Located at 11 Old Stage Road, Hurd Farm is now accepting reservations for its fresh, all-natural, pasture-raised turkeys. The family-owned farm, established in 1923, also offers naturally fed pork, 100% grass-fed beef, and free-range eggs.

Owner Steve Hurd said the farm raises between 500 and 700 broad-breasted white turkeys each season. The birds roam freely on rotated pasture and receive a high-quality, nutritional feed. Turkeys typically range from 12 to 25 pounds, though exact sizes are not guaranteed.

Turkeys are sold at $6.99 per pound and will be available for pickup on Sunday, Nov. 23. Reservations are first-come, first-served, with a $20 deposit that’s applied to the final cost at pickup. To reserve a turkey, visit hurdfarm.com/product/farm-fresh.

Hurd stated the turkeys are humanely processed on-site and will stay fresh in the refrigerator through the holiday.

Sturgeon Creek Farm

1651 State Road, Eliot

Sturgeon Creek Farm, located at 1651 State Road in Eliot, Maine, is the realization of a long-held dream for owner Leslie Stevens. Formerly known as Sidewalk Farms — touted as a small but mighty urban farm in Portsmouth — Stevens and her team made the leap in July 2018 to an 18-acre property across the river, where they now grow healthy food using organic, sustainable, and regenerative practices.

The farm is gearing up for the holiday season with its 2025 turkey and pie order form officially live. Customers can reserve a fresh, pasture-raised turkey or homemade pie for Thanksgiving by printing and completing the form at sturgeoncreekfarm.com and submitting it with a $20 deposit per turkey. Forms can be returned by email, mail, or dropped off at the farm store, where printed copies are also available.

Quantities are limited, and this year’s turkeys will be on the larger side— typically between 15 and 20 pounds. All turkeys must be picked up on Monday before Thanksgiving. Once your order is received, the farm will confirm your reservation and send a reminder email a few days before pickup.

Tide Mill Organic Farm

Edmunds

Tide Mill Organic Farm is now accepting preorders for its pasture-raised organic turkeys, available for Thanksgiving at select Rosemont Market locations. Raised on fresh grass and organic grains in the coastal climate of Downeast Maine, the turkeys enjoy open pasture and fresh air from six weeks of age onward.

Operated by husband-and-wife team Aaron Bell and Carly DelSignore, the farm emphasizes humane treatment, sustainable land management, and nutrient-rich food. Turkeys are processed on-site to reduce stress and ensure consistently tender, flavorful meat that’s low in fat and cholesterol and high in protein, according to the farm.

Tide Mill Organic chickens are available year-round, and Thanksgiving turkeys can be preordered through Rosemont Market locations in Portland, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, and beyond. For hours and contact details, visit rosemontmarket.com.

Vernon Family Farm

301 Piscassic Road Newfields

Vernon Family Farm is now accepting reservations for fresh, pasture-raised Thanksgiving turkeys, available for pickup Monday, Nov. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The farm store will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27–28, in observance of the holiday.

This year’s turkeys are raised locally by Hurd Farm in Hampton. They are non-GMO, antibiotic- and hormone-free, and never frozen. A $50 non-refundable deposit secures your order, with the remaining balance — $10.49 per pound — due at pickup.

Customers may request a preferred size, but due to the nature of pasture-raised farming, exact weights cannot be guaranteed. Turkeys typically range from 10 to 28 pounds, though smaller birds (10-12 pounds) are not expected this season. Whole chickens will also be available as a substitute or addition.

The farm store will be fully stocked during pickup days, offering a wide selection of local goods alongside your holiday bird.
