Who doesn’t love a peaceful walk in a garden?
Luckily, there are some really beautiful gardens in New England, from Boston Public Garden to the Green Animals Topiary Gardens.
And now, HGTV is recognizing the beautiful gardens in New Hampshire and Maine.
The Home and Garden Television network has put together a list of the best gardens in the America, with one per state.
Here’s what HGTV picked for New Hampshire and Maine.
Fuller Gardens
HGTV picked Fuller Gardens in North Hampton, New Hampshire, because of its stunning horticultural variety, like the rose beds and the Japanese garden.
Here’s what HGTV said about it: “These gardens were originally designed for a governor’s estate. The rose garden’s geometric precision offers a stunning contrast to the wild Atlantic beyond, while the Japanese garden provides a contemplative space amid coastal energy.”
The Fuller Gardens are only open from May 12 through Oct. 15 on an annual basis, according to the gardens’ website. Its operating hours are 10 a.m. ET to 5:30 p.m. ET with last admittance at 5 p.m.
“The formal rose gardens designed in the Colonial Revival style were commissioned during the late 1920s by Massachusetts Governor Alvan T. Fuller and designed by the Olmstead Firm as an ornament to his summer estate,” the website said. “The meticulously maintained rose gardens with hundreds of varieties begin their season long bloom cycle in late June and continue through October.”
Fuller Gardens is located at 10 Willow Ave. in North Hampton, New Hampshire.
Here’s HGTV’s pick for Maine.
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
HGTV picked Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine, because its notable size and its family-friendly appeal.
Here’s what HGTV said about it: “New England’s largest botanical garden spans 295 acres where forest meets shoreline. The children’s garden features a storybook village complete with fairy houses, while the Meditation Garden offers contemplative views across a tidal river.”
There are also some beautiful and impressive sculptures around the gardens, like these giant troll statues and a stainless steel kinetic structure known as the “Wind Orchid.”
The gardens are open from May 1 through Oct. 19, and its operating hours are 9 a.m. ET through 5 p.m. ET, according to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens website. Visitors cannot be admitted past 4 p.m.
