Hey, Granite Staters. Happy Wednesday!
|
There’s a moment, somewhere between the last frost and the first mosquito bite, when New Hampshire’s trails come alive.
Mud season dries out, the snow melts and the Granite State’s peaks, ridgelines, and forests welcome hikers with open arms.
Whether you’re chasing summit views, strolling along shaded trails, or discovering hidden waterfalls, now’s the time to get outside.
Hiking season is here—and it’s one of the best ways to experience New Hampshire’s wild beauty, one step at a time.
Speaking of getting outside, here’s what I’m covering today:

🏔️ Meet the teams who haul 50 pounds of food to New Hampshire’s highest kitchens
|
Since 1888, the Appalachian Mountain Club has operated eight backcountry huts in New Hampshire’s White Mountains—each connected by the Appalachian Trail and only reachable by foot. You’ll find hot meals, cozy bunks, and epic views at these places. But how does the food for the meals get there? None of it happens without the hut croos.
Each summer and fall, these staffers hike in and live off-grid, cooking nearly 2,300 family-style meals for hungry hikers. Twice a week, they haul out trash and lug in 40–80 pounds of supplies on wooden packboards.
Menus rotate nightly—like stuffed shells on Sunday, beef on Monday—so hut-hopping hikers never get bored.
