Two prominent figures in New Hampshire Republican politics, Claira Monier and James Steiner, were announced this week as co-chairs for New Hampshire Republicans for Harris, a coalition group formed by the NH Harris for President campaign.
This organizing coalition aims to do grassroot outreach to Republican voters in the state who are disillusioned with the chaos, division, and violence associated with Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda.
Monier, a former Reagan administration official, and Steiner, a former U.S. Army Green Beret and past Republican congressional candidate, are set to play pivotal roles in the coalition’s efforts, including hosting Republican-featured events, door knocking, phone banking, spearheading letter-to-the-editor campaigns, and building networks with local Republican organizations, businesses, and community groups.
Thus far, there is no similar Trump-affiliated group organizing in New Hampshire.
The Harris campaign said it has identified an opportunity in New Hampshire, where a substantial portion of Republican primary voters, over 43%, cast their ballots for Nikki Haley. These voters, along with independents, are seen as crucial in the campaign’s strategy to broaden its appeal. Team Harris emphasizes a welcoming stance for Republicans who prioritize democracy, strong alliances against foreign adversaries, and bipartisan cooperation.

“Donald Trump’s MAGA extremism is toxic to the millions of Republicans who no longer believe the party of Donald Trump represents their values and will vote against him again in November,” said Austin Weatherford, National Director of Republican Outreach for the Harris campaign. “Trump has openly dismissed these voters, but Vice President Harris and our campaign are working tirelessly to earn their support. We believe in showing up, making our case, and earning the support of voters who put country over party.”
Monier, who previously chaired Rick Santorum’s 2012 presidential campaign in New Hampshire, said her reasons for supporting Harris were rooted in conservative pragmatism.
“Donald Trump’s dangerous and divisive agenda is completely antithetical to the conservative values I’ve always fought to protect. I urge my fellow Republicans to join me in supporting Kamala Harris this November. Protecting our democracy and supporting affordable housing are critical issues, and Harris is the best candidate to move our country forward,” said Monier
Steiner, a registered Republican for 50 years and a proud veteran, highlighted his motivations: “With our democracy and fundamental freedoms on the line, I believe it is my patriotic duty to support Kamala Harris for President. Vice President Harris has always fought for democratic values and for all Americans, regardless of party affiliation. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Donald Trump.”
