A recent study shows that when Granite Staters are in the market for that final resting spot, they value history, nature, and serenity the most.
Choice Mutual crunched the numbers by surveying 3,128 adults about their dream burial locations. Here are the most popular cemeteries in NH:
Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover
Founded in 1730, Pine Hill Cemetery spans 75 acres, blending colonial and Victorian history. Shaded by pines, it hosts Revolutionary soldiers and local leaders.
Point of Graves, Portsmouth
Dating to 1671, Point of Graves is one of New England’s oldest burial grounds. Enclosed by a picket fence, it honors people like sea captains and merchants.
Old North Cemetery, Concord
Old North Cemetery, which has been around since 1730, holds the graves of Revolutionary heroes and President Franklin Pierce. Towering trees and history make it a tranquil Concord landmark.
Across the nation, small towns often outshine big cities when it comes to burial spots, according to Choice Mutual. History buffs appreciate places like Gettysburg National, Arlington National, and Finn’s Point.
Many cemeteries also double as nature reserves, with scenic spots like Spring Grove in Cincinnati, Lakeview in Burlington, Vermont and Lone Fir in Portland, Maine offering tranquility amid natural beauty.
There’s also a mix of favored coastal and mountain settings. Cemeteries like Huguenot in Florida and Key West City reflect a salty coastal vibe, while Mountain View in South Dakota and Forestvale in Montana offer sweeping mountain views, suggesting people choose places that reflect their favorite landscapes.
