Looking for a spooky activity this fall? One of the best haunted houses in the country is right here in New Hampshire, according to USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards.
The annual rankings highlight the best in travel, food and lifestyle, and winners are chosen by a public voting poll after being nominated by industry experts. In the 2025 Halloween awards, ranking attractions like escape rooms, haunted hotels and ghost tours across the country, Haunted Overload at DeMeritt Hill Farm in Lee ranked No. 8 in the best haunted attraction category.
Here’s what to know before going to the award-winning haunted house this fall.
About Haunted Overload
Haunted Overload is an immersive haunted trail that winds through the woods on DeMeritt Hill Farm. Its high-quality set up has led this attraction to repeatedly earn recognition as one of the best haunted attractions in the country, including a 2014 win in ABC’s Great Halloween Fright Fight.
The trail is not only lined with spooky trees, but also twisted creatures in spectacular costumes with handmade sets and props. Jack-o-lanterns, 50-foot monsters and terrifying surprises will make you feel like you are in a horror movie.
Here’s what USA TODAY said about the favorite Halloween attraction: “In the quaint town of Lee, New Hampshire, a farm in the New England forest transforms into a nightmare of terror and pumpkin-lit pandemonium. DeMeritt Hill Farm’s Haunted Overload features 50-foot monsters, tons of jack-o’-lanterns, and plenty of movie-quality horrors. By day, it’s a family-friendly, not-so-frightening fest. But as night falls, even the bravest souls will find the attraction extremely frightening.”
How to go to Haunted Overload
Tickets to Haunted Overload cost $38 per person. Extreme horror fans can try the experience in the complete dark on specialty blackout nights for $28, and those looking for a more family-friendly experience can walk through the trail with no scares at night for $25 or in daylight for $14.
Haunted Overload is open this Halloween season from Thursday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Nov. 2, with no scares on Thursday nights and blackout night on Nov. 2. A full schedule of hours can be found online.
The haunted attraction is on DeMeritt Hill Farm, located at 20 Orchard Way in Lee.
