President Donald Trump’s approval has hit a record low in New Hampshire as wide majorities disapprove of the war in Iran, according to a new poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.
The poll, released Sept. 23, found 32% approve of Trump’s overall job as president, while 67% disapprove. His approval has fallen 8 percentage points since August, reaching its lowest point in New Hampshire in either of his terms in office.
His approval has dropped among his own party, too: 66% of Republicans approve of his performance, down from 75% in August.
The poll found that the approval of his handling of the economy and foreign affairs have also fallen to record lows, to 31% and 29% respectively.
It follows several national polls released in the last week that have also found Trump’s approval sinking.
The poll surveyed 1,542 New Hampshire residents online between Sept. 17-21. The margin of error is +/-2.5%.
NH residents disapprove of Iran war
The president’s slipping approval numbers come as voters increasingly disapprove of the ongoing war in Iran, both nationally and in New Hampshire.
Just 23% of Granite Staters say the conflict is going well for the United States, while 75%, including majorities of all parties, say it is going poorly.
A plurality of New Hampshire residents, 34%, think the best course of action is to stop bombing Iran and negotiate an agreement to end the conflict, even if the deal is not favorable to the United States. This is split by party, however: while majorities of Democrats and independents want to end the conflict even without a favorable agreement or any agreement, most Republicans want to escalate the conflict or continue bombing Iran until a deal is reached.
A majority of Republicans, 66%, think that the United States can win the conflict in Iran, while just 8% of Democrats agree.
Nearly half of NH residents think voter fraud is a problem, but not in NH
Trump has long made baseless allegations of voter fraud in the U.S., recently trying to restrict mail-in voting.
In New Hampshire, residents are split over whether they think voter fraud is “serious” in the United States as a whole: 51%, including 94% of Democrats, believe it isn’t serious, while 48%, including 90% of Republicans, believe it is.
Of the different potential forms of voter fraud, 45% believe there is frequent fraudulent use of mail-in or absentee ballots, 44% believe non-citizens vote frequently and 41% believe people often vote using the name of someone else.
A majority of Democrats, and 30% of New Hampshire residents overall, believe none of these things happen frequently in the United States.
However, less than a quarter think voter fraud is serious in New Hampshire. Majorities of all parties think that voter fraud is not serious in the Granite State.
Regarding potential methods of voter fraud in New Hampshire, 31% think that people from other states frequently vote in New Hampshire and 27% believe there is fraudulent use of mail in or absentee ballots.
There is no credible evidence of widespread voter fraud in New Hampshire or nationally. The New Hampshire secretary of state has said New Hampshire elections are safe and secure and there have been very few instances of voter fraud. The state also strictly limits who may vote by absentee ballot.
